Area 5 Envirothon
The Ohio Area 5 Envirothon is a competitive, academic, outdoor team event for high school students which tests their knowledge in five areas: Aquatic Ecology, Current Environmental Issues (CEI), Forestry, Soils and Wildlife. The event is designed to stimulate and reinforce the students interest in our environment and our natural resources while encouraging cooperative decision making, team building and problem solving.
2021 envirothon
Dear Envirothon Advisors,
As you know, the COVID-19 virus continues to impact school systems and communities statewide, each dealing with their own unique situations and challenges. For this reason, Ohio has decided to continue its Envirothon program virtually in 2021. Part of the value of the Envirothon program is based in the hands-on outdoor learning aspect of the competition, so while the decision to go virtual has not been the ideal option, it was made in the best interest of the health and safety of participants, volunteers, and agency partners.
Since it began in Ohio over 25 years ago, the Envirothon competition has provided students an opportunity to head outdoors and learn about natural resources. The program encourages cooperative decision making, team building, and problem solving, while teaching students about the diversity and management of natural resources, environmental careers, and environmental challenges. Participation in the Envirothon propels many of them into career paths based in natural resources and the environment.
That is why it is important to keep Ohio’s Envirothon teams engaged.
If you wish to register a team or teams for the competition, please read the following information. We appreciate your dedication to Ohio's Envirothon program!
Area Level Test
Teams will compete at the Area level by completing an online, multiple-choice test, which will consist of 100 questions, covering the five resource areas of: Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Wildlife and this year’s Current Environmental Issue: Water Resource Management – Local Control and Local Solutions.
The Team Captain will access the test and select the answers to the test questions, with input from other team members. Teams can either work together from one location or through some type of online facilitation platform (Zoom, etc.) that the students are familiar with and comfortable using. It will be up to each team to decide how they will coordinate their test-taking.
The testing platform is Google-based. For ease of use, it is recommended that the device being used to open the test is affiliated with a Gmail account.
